Today's Republicans
In the last week we have had a Federal judge in Montana forward to his buddies a very degrading email about the President't mother because it gave him a warm feeling in his heart and then Rush Limbaugh on his popular radio call a young female student at Georgetown University a slut because she testified on women's health issues before Congress. And then said she should post videos of her sexual activity on the net so everyone could watch. I don't know about you all but to me these are sick people. Degrading other people is not humor. I personally think they need psychiatric help to understand their behavior. And at this point if I win the lottery I am out of here. This country has been taken over by crazies who are not grounded in reality and whose values I find dispicable.

Catholic Church
All of my children were baptized Catholic. It's the only church I've gone to for 50 years. But I do not understand when Santorum and the Catholic Church became the only voices in this country. I do understand that because the economy is improving that the GOP is back to running on God, Gays and Guns. That is sickening.

Back to what?
"Take Our Country Back" is the cry from wing nut land. And according to Rick Santorum, it's back to like the 12th Century for women. No thanks. Been there, done that.

rant
There's an old saying that the Republicans want in your bedroom and the Democrats want in your wallet. Well, I want the Republicans out of my bedroom and the Democrats out of my wallet. Health care for women is not a political football. If you don't approve of abortions, don't have one. If you don't approve of contraception, don't use it. But your opinions don't supersede mine. Do away with income tax and institute a sales tax. Stop trying the exemptions for this and that. Flat sales tax, no income tax. It's nobody's business what I make or anyone else. I am so tired of this crap that comes along every election season and it's purely for the purpose of getting the base stirred up. It's time to put the needs of this country front and center.

Turnout
A bunch of conservative commentators and several high-ranking people in the Republican Party have started wondering out loud why turnout for the Republican has dropped significantly. I'm wondering if they are so disconnected from reality that they don't understand what clowns they have running in the primaries. There are only so many crazies who vote.

National Prayer Breadfast
The other day during the National Prayer Breakfast a couple of Republicans got up and walked out during the President's speech. Their complaint? He was quoting Scriptures from the Bible and explaining how his faith guided him. Wow.

voter fraud
The election official in Indiana has been convicted of voter fraud, and him a good Republican too. What is the world coming to? We are rumored to have some voter fraud in Florida but it involves our snowbirds who vote absentee in their home states up North and then in person down hereso they vote twice. Needless to say most of them are Republicans too. And that is already against the law.

Primary day
Tomorrow is primary day down here for the Republicans. What a wonderful thought. We will be able to watch network TV again without bring bombarded by negative ads constantly and the circus will leave until the fall.

Can we get serious yet?
The President gave a good speech at the State of the Union. We all know he can give a good speech. For a lot of us I'd like to see some walk to go along with the talk. He has spent three years governing like a moderate Republican and now he wants to talk like a Democrat. He's better than anybody the Republicans have managed to put up but I'd like a president I can support because he's looking out for my interests and not Wall Street or the lobbyists. So I guess you could say I'm in the wait and see camp.

Blogs
I really like Booman's blog. The link is in the right. He says things better than I could and I agree with him more than not.

Monday musings
I have a hard time understanding how we as a country got to this point. Obama has governed more as a moderate Republican than a Democrat. The Health Care Reform Act that Republicans love to rail against was a Republican proposal in the early 90's in response to what they called Hillarycare and is basically what Mitt Romney got passed when he was governor of Massachusetts. It is certainly not what Democrats wanted and Obama pissed off a lot of Democrats by pushing for that version. And I am one of those. He has managed to piss off almost every part of the Democratic base by caving to Republicans time and time again. So he should be going down to a solid defeat except Republicans apparently are so intent on nominating somebody, anybody, who can trash talk but who is wholly incapable of governing a country. Really? Why do they hate this country? I love my country and I want all the citizens here to succeed and do well.
At one time in my life I studied World War II in depth because I could not understand how a proud country could descend into the Gates of Hell, so to speak, and sanction the murder of millions. The best explanation was for evil to succeed all it took was for good men to do nothing. Sometimes I wonder if that's where we are.

Puzzle
I would love for someone to explain to me how people continue to vote against their interests. The Republican party has perfected the ability to win political campaigns with the "God, guns and gays (and anyone not lily white) but they have demonstrated time and time again they are incapable of governing the country. Why would working class Americans vote for candidates who don't like government and want to do away with it? Would you hire someone to run your company who wanted to abolish it?
Gabby Giffords
Gabby announced today by way of video on her web site that she will resign from Congress this week. She has made a remarkable recovery from the bullet wound to her head but it was a very serious injury and she has a difficult road ahead rehabilitating. While her resignation will give Arizona a full-time congressperson, it is still a sad event for Gabby and Americans. When one person's bullet negates the votes of millions of American we move one step closer to a banana republic.

South Carolina primary
The voters in their wisdom have voted for Newt Gingrinch. Granted none of their choices are good but can we at least do away with the party of family values crap? It reminds me of growing up in a small town: The men amening the loudest on Sunday morning were the ones hanging out with the hookers on Saturday night. And they sure weren't trying to convert them either. Hypocracy, thy name is Republican.

What I say, not what I do
Mitt Romney's father was born in Mexico. They still have a lot of family there. I don't know if they came to this country legally or not but why the hostility towards immigration now? Is it like the Republican family values, they apply to thee and not to me? Hypocracy makes me ill.

Politics
Watching the Republican circus, aka primary season, I really wonder at my republican friends, and I do have some. Texas seems to excel at sending us brain-challenged politicians. I didn't think they could top Bush but they did. And all the other ones in between, ugh. Romney, what can I say? He will take whatever position on a subject that he thinks his audience wants to hear so who knows what he really thinks. More importantly to me is his decision regarding his family dog. Anybody who straps their family dog in a pet carrier on top of the car for a 10-hour trip on the interstate does not demonstrate the type of decision-making ability that I would want in a president, or any other position of authority frankly. And the most appalling part of all of it is millions of people will vote for one of these clowns. We are witnessing the effect of the dumbing-down of our education system in this country. We are made for a two-party system and we really need the Republican party to join the rest of the sane world.

Penn State
This Joe Paterno/Penn State has me really upset. Joe Paterno gives an interview and says he didn't know what to do. Okay, one of your coaches tells you he's witnessed another engaging in sexual activity with a 10- to 12-year-old in the showers and you don't know what to do? Really. How about call.the.cops. Would his reaction have been different if the child had been his 10-year-old granddaughter? I am totally speechless.
